Pątnów Konin Power Plant

Pątnów Power Plant

The largest power station of the ZE PAK SA Group (57.6% of total installed generating capacity), Pątnów was designed as a unit-structured brown-coal-fired condensing steam utility power station with interstage steam superheating. The first power unit of the Pątnów Power Plant was commissioned in 1967. At present, the power station consists of six 200 MW power units with a total actual maximum output capacity of 1200 MW.
In the coming years, the power generation facilities of Pątnów I will undergo thorough modernization.
The Pątnów and the Konin Power Plants share an open cooling system consisting of five lakes in the Konin region, connected by a network of canals. The total surface area of the lakes is approximately 12 square kilometres.
While focusing on its strategic goals and production cost reduction efforts, the Management Board of ZE PAK SA also undertakes administrative/legal processes necessary to obtain licences and permits required for the conduct of the Company’s business in conformity with Polish national laws and European directives relating to environmental protection.
In 2005 the Pątnów Power Plant was granted an expansion of its existing concession, authorizing the co-combustion of biomass, thus enabling ZE PAK SA to commence the production of ‘green energy’. In April 2006, by a decision of the Wielkopolskie Provincial Governor, the Pątnów Power Plant was granted an IPPC Permit for the generation of electricity and heat.

Konin Power Plant

The Konin facility was built in the 1950s, and it is the oldest brown-coal-fired power station in the ZE PAK SA Group and in Poland. The facility also supplies heat to the town of Konin. At present, it has six power boilers and five turbine generator sets in a manifold arrangement. The power station has a wet flue gas desulphurization system.
The installed power generating capacity of the plant is 248 MW, whereas the thermal capacity is 336 MWt. The facility has an open cooling system consisting of five lakes in the Konin region, connected by canals.
On 31 May 2005 the Konin Power Plant was granted an expansion of its power generation concession authorizing co-combustion of biomass and brown coal. In June 2005, the Konin facility started co-firing biomass with brown coal, and two years later it was granted an expansion of its power generation concession authorizing cogeneration of electricity and heat (so-called ‘red energy’).
As part of the restructuring process, as of 1 October 2007, by an Order of the President of the Management Board, the Konin Power Plant was merged organizationally with the Pątnów Power Plant.
In March 2008 the Konin Power Plant celebrated the 50th anniversary of the synchronization of the first turbogenerator set (TG-2).
