Air Protection

(Projects completed in 1995-2004)

  • Modernisation of all the electrostatic filters operated by the Power Plants in Pątnów and Adamów.
  • Installation of a NOx emission reduction system at the Power Plants in Pątnów and Adamów.
  • Commissioning of a flue gas desulphurisation system for boilers 111 and 112 at the Konin Power Plant.
  • Installation of a hybrid burning system (HUS) on boilers 85 and 86 at the Konin Power Plant.
  • Operation shutdown of Pauker boilers at the Konin Power Plant.
  • Modernisation of an electrostatic filter on boiler 152 at the Konin Power Plant.
  • Installation of two automatic air control stations.

Flue Gas Desulphurisation System

  • Flue gases containing primarily substantial amounts of sulphur compounds that are particularly harmful to environment and live beings are an uncomfortable waste product of lignite firing. Desulphurisation is a good method to reduce the content of such compounds in flue gases.
  • The process of a wet flue gas desulphurisation system involves the direction of flue gases from electrostatic filters to an absorber where they are exposed to lime wash.
  • An array of chemical reactions results in binding of contaminants (particularly SO2) into synthetic gypsum.
  • After leaving the absorber zone, flue gases, which are already free of sulphur, pass through two levels of a mist eliminator where sorbent suspension droplets are caught for removal from flue gases. Finally, having passed through a pre-heating chamber, the treated flue gases are discharged through a stack integrated with the system. The entire process is largely automated.
  • The desulphurisation system treats flue gases in approx. 96% and environmentally friendly, uncontaminated water vapour flows out of the chimneystack.
  • Such a highly effective approach, commonly used in the world’s power industry, has been accepted by the Konin power plant where ZE „PAK” SA has implemented one of the biggest pro-ecological investment projects of the recent years.
