Zespół Elektrowni Pątnów-Adamów-Konin SA is a power supplier with an estimated 12 per cent share in the domestic market and is the second largest producer of lignite-based electricity. The total power generation capacity installed in ZE „PAK” SA is 2338 megawatts, accounting for approx. 8 per cent of the national power supply.

The Company’s power plants were constructed in 1958-1974. In April 1970, they were combined into one single business entity called Zespół Elektrowni Pątnów-Adamów-Konin, and in December 1994, as decreed by the then Minister of Industry and Commerce, Przedsiębiorstwo Państwowe ZE PAK was converted into a sole-holder public limited company of the State Treasury. In 1995-1999, preparations were being made for the privatisation and structural reorganisation of the Company. In March 1999, Elektrim S.A. became a strategic investor of ZE „PAK” SA, acquiring approx. 39 per cent of shares by increasing, in 2000, the Company’s share capital as part of the privatisation agreement. The remaining shares were distributed between the State Treasury (50 per cent) and the employees (approx. 10 per cent).

The ultimate reorganisation decisions were taken in December 1999. Since January 2000, ZE „PAK” SA has been continuing its activity within a new organisational framework from which five subsidiaries have been separated. The implemented organisational changes were meant to make the administration more effective and to enforce a modern management system that would keep up with the trends in the world’s utility power industry.
