Eastern Greater Poland with Zespół Elektrowni PAK covered by the Fair Transition Fund

On March 6, this year, Marc Lemaitre, Director General for Regional and Urban Policy of the European Commission officially confirmed the fact that Eastern Greater Poland was covered by the mechanism of the Fair Transition Fund.

This fact is emphasized by Maciej Sytek – Proxy of the Greater Poland Province Management Board for the restructuring of Eastern Greater Poland and President of the Management Board of Agencja Rozwoju Regionalnego SA (Regional Development Agency) in Konin.

Konin is to be one of the three post-mining regions in Poland, which are to receive funds under the Fair Transition Fund. This is the result of more than two years of efforts and meetings of the representatives of Zespół Elektrowni PAK SA, Konin City Hall, local government officials, NGOs, and trade unions.

Apart from the Konin region, this list also includes the Wałbrzych and Bytom areas. However, the question remains open, who will distribute the funds. The local government representatives unanimously claim that the marshals of the provinces should do it.

According to the European Commission estimates, the energy transition in Poland will cost EUR 240 billion. The Fair Transition Fund is to invest in both mitigating the effects of the transition, as well as its proper implementation.
